I studied photojournalism at the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) and spent over a decade as a staff photographer for newspapers across the East Coast, including right here in Hilton Head.
While working at a local paper, I began photographing families visiting the beach. What started as a side project quickly became my true focus. I found joy in connecting with people and creating portraits that carry meaning.
Eventually, I launched Kellie McCann Portraits, a full-service studio that now serves clients throughout Hilton Head, Bluffton, Savannah, and the Lowcountry.
Today, I specialize in portraits that feel emotionally real and beautifully finished, whether created in the studio or on location along the coast.

My studio is located just before the bridge to Hilton Head Island. Ironically, studio photography was once my least favorite class in college. Today, it has become the place where I do some of my most meaningful work.
A Personal Note
I am a perfectionist. From lighting and posing to editing and final presentation, every detail matters. I believe every family should see themselves in beautifully finished portraits, not just digital files.
I do not have a portrait with my own family, and that absence stays with me. It is a large part of why I do this work. I want to make sure your family never goes without those visual memories.

Kellie McCann is a Master Photographer with the Professional Photographers of America (PPA) and a Certified Professional Photographer (CPP), a title held by fewer than 2,500 photographers nationwide. She holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Photography from Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT), one of the country’s top photography programs.
